The High Sheriff, Graham Barker, is proud to be patron of the Magistrates’ Court Mock Trials Competition. This year, thirty teams from Berkshire schools have taken part. The teams include students from schools in Windsor, Slough, Datchet, Reading, Wokingham, Woodley, Maidenhead, Sandhurst, Thatcham, Bracknell, Newbury Ascot and Wargrave.
Students are given a specially written criminal case which form the basis of a mock trial in which they then take the parts of all the relevant personnel in a Magistrate’s court. The competition enables students to learn about key aspects of the criminal justice system and to develop confidence in personal skills such as public speaking.
The Finals of the Berkshire heats will take place in Reading in May 2018.
