On Thursday, at the invitation of the Buckinghamshire High Sheriff, Pippa Kirkbride, I visited HMP Aylesbury.
Also in attendance were John May, the Oxfordshire High Sheriff, my chaplain, the Revd Gareth Morley, and chaplains from the other counties.
There are no longer any prisons in Berkshire, so I was pleased to have the opportunity to learn about the work taking place at Aylesbury.
Our delegation was hosted by the Governor Kevin Marshall-Clarke, and Deputy Governor, Andy Routley, along with a cross-section of their Senior Leadership Team from various departments.
We were able to discuss challenges, successes, and strategies for the prison, and all of us were impressed by the knowledge and dedication of the team. We toured several facilities, including the faith centre, workshops, and specialist wings.
A special thanks goes to Prison Officer Sam Duthie, who was our guide for the day and is clearly a highly respected and inspiring role model for the prisoners.
